Graduate Assistantship allows students to work full-time during the academic year. Internships provide hands-on experience for students interested in certain fields.

Second, it’s always best to keep your options open. While most employers will accept applications via email, submitting your resume in person is better. Careers4Terps is one of the best resources for finding part-time jobs on and off campus. This site allows students to apply directly to employers via email. You can use it to find part-time jobs on or off campus. This is a good place to start if you are looking for work while attending school.

Federal Work-Study

The Federal Work-Study Program offers part-time employment opportunities to eligible undergraduate, and graduate students enrolled full-time at participating institutions. Eligible students receive financial assistance under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, including Pell Grants, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOGs), Direct Loans, Perkins Loans, and work-study programs.

Students must apply for the program directly through their institution. They must provide documentation of eligibility and apply. Once approved, students must enroll in classes and begin working.

Online Job Search

The online job search allows you to browse thousands of jobs across multiple platforms. You can apply directly to employers via email, submit applications to specific companies, and view previous hiring trends.

Required Paperwork

Students who are working off-campus or students who are hired through a third party vendor must complete an I-9 Form. Employers must verify employment eligibility before hiring anyone. Employers must ensure that employees are eligible to work in the US. Payroll taxes are withheld according to your income level. Your employer must withhold federal, state, and local income tax and social security and medicare taxes from your paycheck. Some employers offer an electronic way to file your W4 form online, while others require you to fill out paper forms.

Why is my application automatically rejected?

Workstudy programs offer low-income college students paid employment opportunities while attending school. However, some colleges use automated systems to reject applications without reviewing each applicant individually. Student advocates have criticized this practice because it denies qualified applicants access to the program.

The problem occurs when colleges use automated systems to screen applicants based on eligibility requirements. For example, many schools require students to submit proof of income. If a student does not provide documentation, he or she might be denied entry into the program.

In addition, there are often inconsistencies among different departments within a university. Some departments might allow students to enter the program even though others do not. In such cases, students who apply to multiple departments risk being disqualified from one department’s program, even though they meet the qualifications of another.

When can new students apply for jobs?

Students can now access Workday, the online job application system used by many companies across Canada. This includes students enrolled in postsecondary institutions, including colleges and universities.

Access to Workday will be made available on December 20th, 2018. Make sure you have submitted your applications well ahead of this date, as it will take up to three weeks to process. How can I view my pay stubs?

To see your paystubs in Workday, go to My Paystub. You can access it via the link above. For older paystubs, there is no way to export them. However, you can still print out copies of your pay stubs. You can also download your paystubs if you want to keep them handy. Click here to download your pay stub.

Why am I unable to submit a timesheet?

Timesheets are temporarily locked unless you pay $5.99 per month. You must enter your time before 10 AM Sunday morning. If you do not enter your time, you will not receive payment.

 

Can I keep my part-time job while going on CO-OP?

You can work part-time during your CO-OP period if you meet certain criteria. You must submit a written request to your COOP supervisor no later than 30 days before starting your CO-OP. If approved, your supervisor will notify you of your start date.

Your COOP supervisor must approve requests to work part-time and make sure you communicate with him/her about your CO-OP schedule. Overtime charges apply if you work more than 40 hours per week. For more information, see our article “What happens if I don’t complete my CO-OP?”
